BP Automotive — Direct Fit S-10 A/C Setup Guide #

Purpose: Help you choose the correct A/C options (and any related A/C parts) when ordering a BP Automotive Direct Fit harness for a 1998–2004 S-10 / Sonoma — so the harness is built for your A/C layout the first time.
Troubleshooting will be added in a later update.

Start here: Direct Fit A/C uses factory wiring #

All Direct Fit harnesses use factory A/C wiring. When you order A/C Yes, the H1000 harness is built to work with the vehicle’s factory-style A/C path — including compressor wiring.

If you remember only a few things:

• Pick the correct A/C Yes/No and location at checkout — that is how we build your Direct Fit harness.
• Wrong A/C option = wrong build. These harnesses are custom-built and not returnable / exchangeable.
• S-10 Direct Fit must use an F-Body operating system in the PCM for A/C to function correctly.
• Fan relays are part of the S-10 Direct Fit path.
• S-10 that originally had a 4.3: use a 2.2 high-side hose with the transducer fitting (see Step 5).
• PCM can be 09354896 or 12200411 (either works).
• Check lead time before you order: Current lead times

Step 1 — Decide what A/C situation you actually have #

Before you open the product page dropdowns, write this down:

• Keeping factory dash / HVAC in the S-10, or deleting A/C
• Compressor location you will run (factory high-driver, high-passenger / bracket swap, relocated, none)
• Original engine in the chassis (2.2 vs 4.3 — this changes the high-side hose / transducer fitting requirement)
• Confirm you are ordering H1000
• Confirm your PCM plan uses an F-Body operating system (required for A/C on Direct Fit)

Quick forks we see often in tickets:

• “Does the Direct Fit harness include A/C?” — Yes — factory A/C wiring (including compressor wiring) when you select an A/C Yes option; selecting No builds for no A/C.
• Customers picking the wrong A/C location after a compressor / bracket change (factory high-driver vs high-passenger).
• 4.3 trucks ordered without the 2.2 high-side hose + transducer fitting path.
• Mixing this guide up with the 1999–2002 full-size truck/SUV A/C Update Kit — that kit is not the S-10 H1000 A/C option. See Step 6.

Step 2 — Open the H1000 product page and find the A/C option #

1998–2004 Plug and Play S10 Swap Harness H1000

• Yes High Passenger
• Yes Factory Location (High Driver)
• Yes Other Location (Use Notes Section Below)
• No

Step 3 — Choose the A/C option that matches the compressor you will run #

1. If you are deleting A/C, choose No.
2. If you are keeping A/C in the stock compressor location (high driver), choose Yes Factory Location (High Driver).
3. If the compressor will sit in the high passenger position (common with certain LS brackets / layouts), choose Yes High Passenger.
4. If the compressor is somewhere else (custom bracket, relocated, unusual package), choose Yes Other Location and describe it in the order notes (a photo helps).
5. Do not guess “close enough.” Location is how the harness is built.

Ticket-driven tip: if you notch the frame or change brackets so the compressor is no longer in the stock high-driver spot, say so in notes — do not leave Factory Location selected by habit.

Step 4 — S-10 platform specifics (H1000) #

• Direct Fit years: 1998–2004.
• A/C option is not optional trivia. Match high passenger / factory high-driver / other / no to the compressor you will actually run.
• Fan relays are part of the S-10 Direct Fit path.
• Factory A/C wiring is used when A/C Yes is selected — including compressor wiring.
• Original 4.3 applications: see Step 5 (2.2 high-side hose with transducer fitting).
• Keep factory dash A/C controls when possible; your PCM must be on an F-Body operating system for A/C to work correctly.

Step 5 — Original 4.3 applications: 2.2 high-side hose + transducer fitting #

If the S-10 / Sonoma originally had a 4.3, you need to use a 2.2 high-side hose with the transducer fitting for the A/C path that works with the Direct Fit / LS PCM setup.

Do this:

1. Confirm the truck was a 4.3 A/C truck (not a 2.2 that already had the correct high-side hose style).
2. Plan on the 2.2 high-side hose that accepts the transducer fitting.
3. Order / install the matching transducer fitting and GM A/C pressure transducer as required for that hose.

5. If you are unsure which exact hose / fitting combo you need, email us with year, original engine (4.3), and photos of the high-side hose / port area.

Why this matters: wrong high-side hose / missing transducer fitting is a common S-10 A/C ticket after a 4.3 → LS Direct Fit install.

Step 6 — Related parts note (what is not for Direct Fit S-10) #

Use this mainly for the S-10 4.3 → 2.2 high-side hose / transducer fitting path (Step 5) and any fitting / sensor pieces that page lists for that install.

1999–2002 Silverado / Sierra / Yukon / Tahoe / Suburban A/C Update Kit #

1999–2002 full-size truck/SUV A/C Update Kit (often referenced as kit 1018)

• For 1999–2002 GM full-size trucks and SUVs only
• Not the H1000 S-10 A/C dropdown

If you have a 1998–2004 S-10, choose A/C on the H1000 page and follow Step 5 for original 4.3 applications.

Step 7 — PCM / operating system: F-Body OS required for A/C #

S-10 Direct Fit (H1000) must use an F-Body operating system in the PCM for A/C to function correctly.

Also remember:

• This Direct Fit LS path uses drive-by-cable and a P01 PCM. You can use either PCM service number 09354896 or 12200411.
• If BP Automotive programs / tunes your PCM: we need to know whether factory A/C is retained or deleted, and we program for Direct Fit A/C on an F-Body OS.
• If someone else tunes it: they must flash / use an F-Body operating system and enable A/C correctly for that OS — or A/C will not function correctly even with the right harness options.

Step-by-step flow at checkout (H1000 + A/C) #

1. Confirm you need H1000 for a 1998–2004 S-10 / Sonoma.
2. Open the product page and complete non-A/C options (year, engine, C101, injectors, trans, MAF, etc.).
3. Select the A/C option that matches compressor location — or No.
4. If Other Location, fill the notes with a clear description (and photo if you can).
5. Original 4.3: plan the 2.2 high-side hose with transducer fitting (Step 5).
6. Confirm PCM plan uses an F-Body operating system and that A/C retained / deleted is noted for the tune.
7. Do not add the 1999–2002 full-size A/C Update Kit unless your vehicle is that full-size truck/SUV family.
8. Acknowledge custom build / no return or exchange, check lead times, then order.

This guide covers choosing Direct Fit A/C options and related factory A/C expectations for:

• HVAC manufacturer diagrams if you somehow deviate from factory HVAC
• A/C shop work (evacuate, charge, leak repair, condenser / evaporator mechanical diagnosis)
